Be part of the problem - Think out!

Commentary:   A quiet post-election week - The two main themes in the news this week are the continuing economic death-spiral and the selection of the Obama cabinet.  In an interesting confluence of events, Obama resigned his Senate seat rather than engage in that venue to force action on the economy.  He could have participated in the lame-duck session, and any special sessions called before his inauguration.  My guess is that he doesn't want to be seen voting for any bail-out for the auto companies and their unions, which were instrumental in his successful campaign, or to be part of a failed effort on the economy - since all efforts are doomed to fail.  Gravity must be served, the fall must be complete.  Most economic bubbles have fallen about 90% before recovering - going all the way back to Tulipomania in the mid-1500's...  We're at most, halfway there.  Then after the collapse will come the slow recovery.

Obama continues to be very circumspect regarding his involvements.  In much the same way that he distanced himself from questionable folk well in advance of his official campaign; but in a very real way, he's been on-track for a leadership position for a number of years.  My guess is that after all of the embarrassing baggage Bill Clinton dragged the Party through, they were very careful this time around.  The other surprising thing is that despite previous indications both from the Obama camp and from President Bush - Obama didn't attend the G-20 meeting.  Also interesting, is that the meeting produced no immediate plan to deal with the crisis.  Without the incoming President in attendance, there could be no real progress.  All of those delegations came all of that way, just to be stiffed by the star.  He's not going to get any of this on his clean, white shirt before he takes the helm.  I think it would have been a good thing if he could have figured out a way to have worked with the outgoing administration.  These developments echo concerns I had about his personality-type from the beginning.  Not that John McCain would have been a better choice - we were caught between the devil and the deep blue sea.

There's a lot of talk on the internet about some "test" of the new administration shortly after they take office...  Joe Biden referred to it at some length, as did Colin Powell and others...  Check it out...  It's an interesting idea, that these guys are purportedly hinting at something, in much the same way that some public statements seemed prescient in retrospect, after 9-11.   Who knows, but it will be a knuckle-biting time when he takes the oath.  So many things can go wrong.  He has gotten all of the global players hungry for a change in the algebra between us and them.  Because the theme of the campaign was overturning the foreign policy order, everyone will be maneuvering to improve their position.  That will make for a dangerous time, and as many have noted, the last two administrations suffered a large-scale terrorist attack on the US in their first year in office.  It looks like we should be ready...

Paranormal Topic of the Week

I'm just back from a trip to Point Pleasant, West Virginia...  where I commemorated the 42nd anniversary of the first sightings of the Mothman in the TNT area.  The North Power Plant, where Linda Scarberry first saw those hypnotic red eyes, has been gone for years, and the place where it stood is now just inside the locked gates of the Mason County Fairgrounds.  Certainly not an impenetrable barrier, but one observed on most nights as convention by this explorer...

The first time I held this vigil, 2 years ago, I sat alone in my darkened car in the miserable, cold rain.  The others who had intended to meet for the occasion had cancelled, and I was the lone witness for the 40th anniversary.  Surely, something would present itself on this occasion...  But no, the unbroken rain continued, making the event seem more disconnected and insular than I had anticipated.  I ran video, and snapped pictures, but nothing of interest was recorded.  I was left with the clarity that only realizing we are not in charge can give.  The phenomenon goes where it will, it shows up on its own schedule, appears to whom it will.  For its own purpose.

This time, in an odd echo, it was again raining - but not so intensely, or continually.  We stood on the road outside the gate as the wind whipped our ponchos around us - not as cold as last time, but a little more welcoming.  There were four of us this time, and we hopefully scanned the darkness in between questions for the Frick's box - which is similar to a "Franks's Box" but, made instead by my friends, the Fricks.  John will listen to the tapes and see if anything of interest turned up.

My impression is that any communication from the superspectrum over these new-fangled devices will prove to be just like the rest of the phenomenon's interaction with us...  It will be manipulative and unreliable.  The one thing that those devices do bring to the table is that no particular talent or skill is required.  Anyone can find the plans online, and with a few dollars they can purchase the recommended radio and do the minimal alteration necessary to make one - and viola!  State-of-the-art communication with the dead/undead/alien/ultraterrestrial/demonic.

So, what we'll have is more and more people opening themselves up to the mischief of the ultraterrestrials.  As a result, the number of demonized-self-afflicted persons available to do the bidding of those who may well be the enemies of the human race, rather than it's benevolent saviours - will increase.  More voices shouting into the blogosphere, obscuring the sparse truth that persists in that rocky ground.

As always, it was fun to partake of an adventure in Point Pleasant, looking for the Mothman and other entities - climbing hills at night, in the freezing rain, by flashlight - is a nice counterpoint to the humdrum work-a-day world of our usual lives.

Courage,

Washington, DC / Presidential Transition – Obama transition team co-chair, John Podesta, said that once sworn in, Obama will rescind a wide variety of presidential directives and orders, to reverse policy stands of the previous administration – such as the ban of research on embryonic stem cell research, and abortion limitations.  According to Podesta, “Mr. Obama is a transformational figure.”  Obama’s new Chief of Staff, Emanuel, said that the promised tax increase for those families making more than $250,000 will take place.  In an apparent discontinuity with his stated goal to limit the access of “big-money,” 6 of the 15 persons named to the transition team were top fundraisers.  President Bush will host the new 1st family at the White House today.  House speaker Pelosi and Senate majority leader Reid are lobbying for a bailout of failing auto industry giants GM, Chrysler, and Ford with a new “stimulus package.”

Minnesota / Senate Election – Irregularities in the run-up to the recount favor trailing Democratic Party candidate Al Franken.  On election night Norm Coleman led by 725 votes.  As of yesterday his lead had shrunk to 206 – based on odd errors, all of which were under Democratic Party jurisdiction and which factored in Franken’s favor – including 32 absentee ballots “forgotten” in an election official’s car.

Pleasant Grove City, Utah – A religious group is asking the US Supreme Court to intervene to force Salt Lake City’s Pioneer Park to allow them to erect a monument to the “Seven Aphorisms of Summum” because they have allowed a monument to the 10 Commandments in that same park.  The group says that the 7 Aphorisms were given to Moses on Mount Sinai at the same time as the 10 Commandments, but that Moses broke the tablet because he felt that the people weren’t ready.  Summum is a religious group founded in 1975 by Claude “Corky” Rex Nowell AKA Summum Bonum Amon Ra – who died last January (63).  He is currently undergoing a 6-month embalming process in the group’s Salt Lake City Pyramid.

New York City, New York – Thousands of pro-homosexual rights marchers march on the Mormon temple to protest the church’s support of California’s Proposition 8, which amended the California constitution to ban homosexual marriages.  Californian voters, while voting to elect Democrat candidates broke with those candidates to approve the measure.  Most Republican candidates in California also opposed the amendment.  Pro-homosexual organizers have undertaken a huge program of protests and boycotts nationwide to try to coerce what they could not achieve through the election.

Enugu, NigeriaPolice have freed 20 teenage girls from a “baby-mill” related to human trafficking.  The girls would be enticed with offers of free abortions, and were held captive until they gave birth.  They would be paid a token sum @$170, and then the babies were sold for between $2500and $3800 each.  The arrest of a woman smuggling a day-old infant led to the discovery of the enterprise.  Statistics are difficult to come by, but such operations are thought to be widespread and run by criminal syndicates.
